TRAFFIC JAM TO AN OFFICE WORKER
I imagine myself as an office worker.
Name : Dino
Occupation : Teller bank at City Hall
Age : 28
As an office worker, I have to arrive at the office on time everyday. The working hours are from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. I usually get up at 7.30 and leave house at 8.00 a.m. Normally, I need 20 minutes driving from my house in Bukit Batok to the office. However, there was a day when the construction along Newton has caused 2 lanes of the road to sink. At the peak-hour traffic heading towards the Stevens Road intersection slowed to a snarl on Bukit Timah Road after a short section of the road sank. The depression caused two left lanes to be closed to traffic, leaving only one available lane. As a result, there was a massive traffic jam that lasted for several hours and because of it, I need extra 30 minutes to arrive at the office. I felt very stressful because of that unpredictable situation and on my way to the office, i also felt nervous of being late to work. Moreover, i waste my time and energy on the road because of the traffic jam.

What Caused Traffic Jam in Singapore?
Compared to 5 years ago, traffic jam in Singapore become worse. What caused traffic jam?
1. the number of drivers trying to use the same road is so high that it goes beyond the road's capacity to handle cars.
2. Choke point 1: Exit 14B from East Coast Parkway (ECP) to the MCE
Reasons for slow traffic:
- The road turns quite sharply from the ECP into the MCE.
- The road narrows from four lanes along the ECP to two lanes at Exit 14B into the MCE.
- There are two confusing signs near Exit 14B. One is for Central Boulevard and one for the MCE towards AYE,
Choke point 2: Exit 5 from MCE to ECP
Reasons for slow traffic:
Reasons for slow traffic:
- The road narrows from five lanes along the MCE to two lanes at Exit 5 into the ECP.
- There are not enough lane markings before the exit to indicate which lanes on the MCE are bound for the ECP. This caused some motorists headed for the ECP to filter from the right to left only near the exit.
Choke point 3: Exit 3 from MCE to Central Boulevard
Reasons for slow traffic:
Reasons for slow traffic:
- Many motorists heading towards Shenton Way and the Marina Bay Financial Centre used Exit 3 on the MCE to enter Central Boulevard, causing congestion.Motorists going to Shenton Way could have used Exit 1 further down instead of Exit 3.
- There is some construction in the area around Central Boulevard, with some road realignments, causing some confusion.

Traffic jam in Indonesia and Singapore
Traffic jam is a very slow-moving traffic that has become a concern in almost every country in the world. In my hometown, Indonesia, traffic jam is a big problem to the government which is caused by too many vehicles on the road especially motorbikes that usually cut the lines, accidents, and the absence of long-term infrastructure, such as : MRT system and monorail (which was abandoned, leaving its platform supports as more concrete pillars). There are currently around 1.5m motorised vehicles—cars, motorcycles, buses and three-wheeled auto-rickshaws—on Jakarta's streets each day, though the roads have space for only 1m of them. Note: There is still no MRT in Indonesia so the only public transportation are bus, taxi, becak, and bemo. However, recently the new leadership are planning to finish the construction of the monorail and to finally construct MRT line in the city. The new leadership also prohibiting states employees that lives around Jakarta (capital city) using personal vehicles on the first Friday of each month.

Compared to Indonesia which has a lot of motorbikes, Singapore has very little amounts of motorbikes and also has a lot of public transportations. However, because of a lot of tourists, international students, international workers who came to Singapore, Singapore started to become a crowded country. Public transportation can not support all the people in the country and the space of the road is not enough for all the vehicles especially during the peak hours.
